why

The time I last wrote a complete poem was 10 years ago while sitting by the riverbank in rural Japan. The maple leaves were turning bright red then.

. . .

Two events happened last week that made me decide to try writing poetry again. First, I got my best friend, Joanna, the book "Zen in the Art of Writing" by Ray Bradbury. I had a read of the book before posting it and got a massive jolt. The same Bradbury who fueled my imagination as a child with science fiction stories, was pricking my conscience for abandoning the muse who used to whisper verses in my ear.

Second, I had to write an essay on what I wanted to learn from Kendo for my Dan grading examination. It was an extremely painful process, I spent more than two hours staring at a blank screen. Why was I unable to write something on Kendo, a passion that has consumed me for the last 5 years? It was then that I realised that I had forgotten how to write, and thus have lost the ability to describe what I see, hear, taste and feel.

So, I will try to write again.
